About the imprint
A small shelf,
kept carefully.
Magic Pen Books started in 2021 at a kitchen table in a flat with a leaking tap. The idea was modest: publish books we'd want to find face-out at the bookshop on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and pay our writers properly.
Four years on we are still small on purpose. We publish six to eight books a year across cozy romance, noir, literary fiction, speculative, and essays — the line that holds them together is voice, not genre. If you can hear the writer on the page, we are interested.
Every book is hand-edited by a human being who has read it three times. Every cover is set in metal type or its digital descendant. Every contract gives the rights back to the author after seven years. None of this is revolutionary; it's just how we'd want to be published ourselves.
