Magic Pen Books is small on purpose. We add one or two writers a year, and we read every full manuscript that comes through our window before deciding.

Submissions open March 1–31 and September 1–30. Send a completed manuscript, a one-page synopsis, and a short note about who you are and what you're trying to do. No agent required.

We're particularly interested in voice-driven fiction in any genre, essay collections with a centre, and quiet books that don't have an obvious home elsewhere. We're a poor fit for thrillers, YA, and books with more than three timelines.

We respond to every submission within twelve weeks. If you don't hear from us in that time, write again — sometimes the email goes to the wrong inbox.
